Ok to be fair I was not in the best frame of mind, but the film was good fun from start to finish, lots of nods to the larger MCU and Marvel in general. Not sure if Cummerbatch (sic) is yet strong enough an actor to hold a film in his own right. One mid credit scene (great) and an end credit scene (not sure where it is leading).

All in all way better than IM2, GOTG and TTDW. I would probably rate it alongside Antman.

I liked the movie, but would rate it at about the same level of entertainment as Ant-Man, competent, humorous, passable but uninspired action, nothing exceptional other than the special effects in two scenes - the Ancient One blowing Strange's mind while introducing him to magic and the chase through the mirror universe. I never disliked Strange as a character but I never actively liked him either.

There should have been a more powerful emotional moment with Strange choosing selflessness over his previous selfishness than being willing to die over and over in a time loop, the execution of which was too hokey. Dormammu also should have been introduced in a far more dramatic way. Merely being this big face like the Wizard of Oz diminished him as this big bad possibly universal threat.

I wish Marvel had cut down on the action, which wasn't that exciting anyway and often went on too long, and concentrated more on building the characters, especially the relationship between Strange and Mordo and between Strange and the Ancient One. After the movie ended, I still wasn't sure how close these characters were to each other.

The one action scene that I wish was longer is when the Ancient One was finally unleashed. It was too brief and underwhelming in showing her power. Tilda Swinton was the best thing about the movie and I just wanted a lot more of her.

How to make an entrance:
