As I recall, Professor Charles Xavier is the only telepath on Earth with the power and any chance of containing the Phoenix if starts running amok.

I don't ever want to see the Phoenix entity again. So if his only purpose is to deal with that thing then leave him dead.

But I don't really dislike Charles. I think he's a great character...just not great for the X-Men. He holds them back. If we could have Charles who goes on adventures outside of the X-Men somehow I think I would like him.

I kinda feel like he holds his students hostage with his dream. He had a big dream and so many people have had to die to uphold it. Maybe some of those mutants just wanted to pass for normal and go to nursing school or something.

Xavier has seldom used his full power but if he can still contain and shut down the Phoenix then he is still a force to be reckoned with.

I got zero interest in that. Anything Phoenix related puts me to sleep. Anything dealing with telepaths one upping each other will also induce sleep.

The Phoenix entity should have never been created IMO. So many bad stories stem from that thing.

The Pheonix story should have been decreed as a "one and done" story and that writers were forbidden to use it ever again.

Frankly I'd rather see Xavier on his feet and walking and using his powers perhaps in a covert way to help humans and mutants finally overcome their bigotries.

How many times does Xavier himself have to perish or for him to see his students perish before he will finally say "ENOUGH"
