I would prefer F4 - this would include Doom, Surfer, Galactus, Thing vs Hulk etc

Or the X-Men - Wolverine vs Cap, Storm and Thor, Professor X vs Dr Strange.

I think I'm with you. Where the FF is concerned, I think that ship has sailed. The FF only works when they're the first heroes. Now that they'd be late comers, it's like this:
- Reed is a super-genius. Yeah, well, we already have Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. But Reed can stretch. Yeah, well, Spider-Man has webs that can pretty much perform the same feats, and for the infiltrational aspects, we have Ant Man. What else you got?
- Sue can put up energy shields. Yeah, well, Doctor Strange can do that too. OK,, but Sue can turn invisible. Yeah, well, Iron Man has stealth armor, Doctor Strange can visit places in his astral form, and Ant Man can infiltrate at ant size. What else you got?
- Ben is super-strong. Yeah, well, so are the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and (soon) Captain Marvel. What else you got?
- Johnny shoots fire. Yeah, well, Iron Man could do that if he wanted to. What else you got?
- Uh...

When the FF had these powers first, it was a whole different vibe.

As for the X-Men, I've never felt any great need for them to interact with the rest of Marvel Universe, except for certain special cases, namely, the Beast as an Avenger, which I guess would be cool in the films and also - well -

OK. This would be a cool movie: Spider-Man, the Human Torch, and Iceman. They wouldn't even need a code name. They could just be buddies who adventure together. The movie franchise could be titled - wait for it - Marvel Triple Action.

(Yes, I'd rather have Johnny Storm than Firestar.)

This one film is a cool enough idea that Marvel should try to negotiate a special arrangement to allow it. The X-franchise barely uses Iceman and the FF franchise is a mess any way so maybe a deal would be possible. Heck, I could live with Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch if I had to. In fact I kind of like the idea.

So here's my answer: I don't really need Marvel to regain the full franchises - either of them. I just need Marvel to negotiate specific deals. Maybe the Beast could join the Avengers. Maybe Marvel Triple Action could be greenlighted.
