I kinda like it. It's not as good as the Netflix shows IMO but it's better than the ABC shows. To me the parents are more interesting than the kids themselves but I think I had that same issue during the first volume. Nico's mom, Alex's dad, Chase's dad and the Yorkes in particular are pretty good.
Differences between the show and comics:
Nico had an older sister that died named Amy. Supposedly it was a suicide but that's doubtful. Nico's parents run the world's largest tech firm or something. It's implied that the Staff of One is actually alien tech and not magic.
Molly Hayes is now named Molly Hernandez, Hispanic, a teenager and her parents are dead and she's being raised by Gert's parents. (The Pride almost certainly killed her parents who were also members)
Gert's parents are no longer time travelers (bummed about that) but are like geneticists or something. They still create that dinosaur though. (I think the casting choice for Gert seems pretty dang perfect)
Chase Stein's mom and Nico's dad are having an affair. (and they're the weakest characters in the Pride IMO)
Chase's dad has a brain tumor.
Karolina's parentage is...different. But not. Apparently her father in the comics is sort of split between 2 characters on the show. The father who raised her Frank Dean is a human and he's an actor and married to Leslie who runs a Scientology like church/cult. Leslie is presumably an alien and Karolina's biological father is an alien (or Gibborum?) benefactor to the Pride who goes by Jonah. A lot of the plots of the earlier episodes revolve around the Pride sacrificing people to rejuvenate Jonah. The show keeps mentioning Leslie's father David so I'm not sure if this is just another alias for Jonah or if Leslie's not really an alien after all or if she's just from an alien family that's been on earth for a long time. For some odd reason Leslie's husband Frank is never invited to the Pride meetings. The recent episode implied he's had his memory wiped of walking in on Leslie and Jonah having sex. Karolina's still a lesbian. Chase has a crush on her. I hope the show avoids that annoying Xavin storyline and pairs Karolina with an actual woman at some point.
Alex...well so far they've stayed true to his character but I'm waiting for that big reveal down the road about him. He was always my favorite in the comics and that's true here as well. Considering all the changes they have made I'm curious what changes if any they will make to Alex and his ultimate fate.
I haven't been watching, but thanks for the update. It makes me want to check it out. I've read all the Runaways comics except the most recent run, and I have a hard time seeing how it could be done well on tv and so have been hesitant to watch it.
