You've put your finger on what bothered me most about Man of Steel. Superman and his enemies just went at each other, and Superman didn't pay any attention at all to what must have been (at least!) tens of thousands of civilian deaths. Or would anyone like to argue that the multiple skyscrapers that fell to the ground were completely evacuated?

I remember sitting in the theater in horror, wondering who wrote this crap. The Superman I remember reading would have left the villain in a split second to rescue as many people as he could... but Cavill's Superman didn't even seem to notice the civilian deaths. He was too busy punching Zod into the next building. And the next. And the next. It's unavoidable - Superman is as guilty of those deaths as Zod was.

I'd go one step further with your description of Supes, his parents did (in the comics) raise him to do the right thing unlike in the crappy movie where they purposefully tell him not to, the equivalent opposite of with great power comes great responsibility. Superman is the boy scout, the gold standard, the one everyone else looks up to.

My favorite version of the Man of Steel was the 90's animated series. Where Clark was a crack reporter and Big Blue inspired others by his deeds and words,

Zack and the DC movies missed the boat at every chance and turn they had and simply proceeded to double down when push came to shove.
