    For those that don’t know, the Bear is a retcon female character that was around during Howard Stark’s time, though she’s much older.


    She’s also from Russia.

    That can’t be a coincidence.

Actually it could. Bears are some of the animals most associated with Russia, and quite often Russia itself has been personified as a bear by cartoonists etc. to the point that it is a little too obvious.

(BTW, the current Russian prime minister's name appears to be derived from the Russian word for bear, "medved").

    She has no appearances in the modern age.

Which is neither here nor there as she is apparently/functionally immortal.

    Could The Bear be the mutant and Russian Winter Guard member Ursa Major’s mother?


Seems unlikely, as the Bear's origin appears to be magical. In any case, one should be able to check whether Ursa Major's mother looks anything like the Bear. According to and

she made an appearance in Operation S.I.N. #4 (2015). But of course there's nothing to prevent some future writer from retconning the Bear into being Mikhail's mother...
