At the time I loved Justice League and JLI, but over the years I have found the Giffen/Demattes Bwa-ha-ha era has not aged well.

I bought this and thought it was good. I haven't looked at it since then, though.

However, it was still better than Justice League Detroit, which accidentally turned the JLA into a joke. :/

I liked this too. As a matter of fact, I'm a Gerry Conway fan in general. This particular series harkened back, it seemed to me, to the Cap/Wanda/Clint/Pietro era of the Avengers.

Actually, I find I can never maintain an interest in the Justice League when it's going by the Big Guns philosophy. If it were up to me, the Justice League would be Batman, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter, plus whatever up and coming heroes DC wants to showcase. I would never include Superman, Wonder Woman, any of the Green Lanterns, or the Flash. These heroes are just too invincible, especially together. If space on the team needed to be filled, Hawkman and the Atom would be OK, though I would prefer their spots be filled by up and comers. So what I'm saying is, DeMatteis and Conway had the right idea, in my opinion - especially Conway.
