Aerosmith was huge with the release of Permanent Vacation(1987). After a couple of lackluster albums, one without Joe Perry, Permanent Vacation put them back in the spotlight on the radio and MTV. Hits like Rag Doll, Dude Looks Like A Lady, and Angel were all over the radio.
AC/DC was still getting play, but mostly on the metal station. Metallica would've only been played on the metal station. Nothing mainstream. At least, that's how I remembered it in Boston.
Steve Dallas as the manager of "Deathtongue". I owned the record or was it a c.d. that came with one of the books. Although by then it was Billy and the Boingers. Bloom County is my favorite comic strip of all time. Above even Doonesbury! Whoops better start a new subject line. Pretty sure it falls in this boards time frame.
