Quote:A couple of my favorites started in the late 70s but ended in the 80s. I don't think I watched any in the 90s but maybe you guys will remind me of some.
Quote:Night Court (which I had forgotten about until our new thread reminded me)
Quote:One Day at a Time (started in the late 70s)
Quote:WKRP in Cincinnati (started in the late 70s)
Quote:What surprises me is that two of these are family sitcoms, which I would have told you I never watch. Usually I prefer to watch shows about people at work, which covers a lot of territory if you think about it. Shows about people at home typically bore me. But One Day at a Time and certainly Family Ties feature intelligent characters and I think that was their saving grace with me. I hate shows about unusually stupid people.
Quote:Three family sitcoms I hated with a passion were -
Quote:Everybody Loves Raymond
Quote:Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Quote:If there is a hell, my portion of it will have these three shows playing nonstop. All three were 90s shows, interestingly. Also all three featured unusually stupid people.
Ones I like:
Seinfeld (I'm the only person who loved the finale)
Empty Nest (Golden Girls spinoff)
Nurses (Empty Nest spinoff)
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Gimme A Break
That 70's Show (although it descended into awfulness whenever they focused on Andy Kaufman)
Married With Children
Ones I didn't care for:
Everybody Loves Raymond
Full House (one of the daughters grew up to be a meth head)
Family Matters (one of the daughters grew up to be a porn star)
Caroline In The City
(truth be told CBS in general has never had a sitcom I've enjoyed)
Neat sitcom coincidence I stumbled onto. In an episode of Taxi (Louie's Fling in 1981) Danny Devito's character is watching television with his character's girlfriend played by Rhea Perlman...the music for the TV show they are watching is the same music that will later be used as the theme music for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia...a show Danny Devito joined in 2006.
