At one point Byrne was drawing X-Men, Fantastic Four and The Avengers all at the same time, using three different inkers. To my knowledge no other artist was ever generating more work and not on a comic book company's three biggest titles. Then Byrne went on to write and draw Man of Steel, which was the Superman reboot that redefined his origin. Then he drew the Superman comic right after.

His artistic style was every bit as definitive as George Perez's during the eighties.
