But which Hawkman would people want to see? The story of two lovers who are reincarnated, join, and then come to a tragic end at the hands of their enemy? That would make for some awesome drama there, especially when you can use flashbacks going all the way to ancient Egypt, the wild west, etc.

Or do you do the space operatic cop from another planet and adapt the Hawkworld three issue series done by Tim Truman, of the rich living in their floating cities, alien living below? It would especially resonate with people in today's political climate.

Damn, honestly I'm torn. Both story concepts are awesome.

In my opinion the two choices are mutually exclusive. The mistake DC kept making was to try to merge the two. The reincarnation angle fits with the Golden Age origin. It doesn't fit with the Silver Age origin. I'd be fine with a movie based on the Golden Age origin. I'd also be fine with a movie based on the Silver Age origin. But try to merge the two and you end up with conflicting aesthetics, magic versus science.

If the Silver Age origin is used, then the best rendition of that is Hawkworld. Sure, Hawkworld was a retcon of that origin, it added layers of detail, but the result was sophisticated and both morally and dramatically complex.
