Yeah I definitely wouldn't have liked it if he had attempted a British accent, but again I am an American.

I wanted the accent - but really what I wanted was Errol Flynn or someone who made me think of him. Costner didn't, and unfortunately, because of that, I couldn't enjoy the movie. It isn't just the accent. Errol Flynn is dashing. Everything about him says swashbuckler. Costner is low key, understated. He just isn't cut from the same mold as Errol Flynn.

Excellent points regarding Costner. I liked the movie when it first came out but I haven't watched it in years and I don't miss it at all. It just hasn't aged well.

Also, looking back at it I feel they made too many alterations to the classic story. Where is the archery competition? Where is the Norman oppression over Saxons? Where is Prince John? I respect that the Crusades play a larger role in the story and I think adding Morgan Freeman was a good thing, as he makes for a far better sidekick than Will Scarlet, but the movie is just weak overall.
