Quote:Have we ever had a Golden Girls banner before? If not - shame on us!
Quote:Who was a fan of the show? I confess to only having seen a handful of episodes. I was surprised to see it ran from 1985 to 1992. I would have said it was more recent than that. I think part of the reason I would have said that is, Betty White is still very much in the public consciousness. Memes featuring her are a staple of Facebook life. I've attached a typical one.
Quote:And then there's Bea Arthur. She of course is world famous as the primary love interest of the one and only Deadpool. Unfortunately the excellent comic that first showcased Deadpool's undying love was Cable & Deadpool, which is off topic for us, since it ran from 2004 to 2008. If you want to discuss it, please visit the greatest message board since the dawn of humanity.
Quote:Some pictures of the Golden Girls omit Estelle Getty. To me that's crazy. Estelle Getty is easily my favorite of the four stars. Her character, of the four, most consistently could get a laugh out of me. Also Dorothy (Bea Arthur's character) would lose much of her substance if she weren't constantly interacting with her Mom, Sophia.
Quote:Rue McClanahan's Blanche was always interesting to me, partly because of her never-ending manhunt. I don't think she was ever portrayed as a cougar, and I think that may be the most significant element of the show that places it fittingly in the 80s and early 90s. If the show had come out in the 21st century, I think Blanche would certainly have been portrayed as a cougar.
Yeah she was never trying to get with younger guys. She was just a tramp (er...whatever socially accepted term replaces that) who slept with people in her age range usually.
Quote:Who was your favorite Golden Girl and why?
I was a small kid when it first came on...but I loved it. The jokes were kind of bawdy.
I always liked Dorothy. Her put downs, her support for her friends, her pettiness...I've seen almost all the episodes...she's a pretty great character. I loved her dynamic with her ex-husband Stan.
