I confess I never warmed to the black costume. I especially disliked it when it was revealed to be alive. When the symbiote moved to another host and we got Venom, I wasn't a fan of that either. How about you?

There was an opportunity in the 80s and 90s that was never explored. Maybe no one thought of it. Instead of Venom, we could have had (via cloning) an actual villainous Peter Parker who would have been the good Peter Parker's nemesis. "Dark Spider" (for want of a better name) could have worn the black costume. That, I would have liked. If I were in charge, I would have used the Dark Spider story line to finally reveal Peter's secret identity to Aunt May. (Dark Spider would reveal it, indifferent to any heart attack Aunt May might suffer.) Dark Spider would also have formed an alliance with the Green Goblin and in fact would have taken Norman Osborn as a mentor, sort of an evil Uncle Ben. Do you agree that this was a missed opportunity? Would you have enjoyed a story line like this one?

Seriously, it was - and still is - awesome.

As a young teenager at the time of its introduction, I can say it was BIG news around the book stores, comic shops, and schoolyard.

Everyone I know LOVES the black costume. It's just sooooooo cool.

Great stories at the time also! (As a bonus!)
