Maybe some day, when I have more money to spend on comics that I don't already do, I'll check the series out. What is the full premise? I only remember the shown comic covers.

I would absolutely recommend the series, but based on your interests, you could stop with Book Four, Six. or Ten. Not many have the intestinal fortitude to go much farther than that.

Wasn't Cerebus a monthly series? Kinda confused.

I believe it was a monthly series that has since been collected into a series of collections, like Marvel's Essentials or DC's Showcase Presents.
