    2. It was in that book that Starlin started the Metamorphosis Odyssey that after a few chapters introduced Vanth Dreadstar. He was teamed with a sorcerer and some others to stop a war that was destroying the Milky Way galaxy.

    4. THE PRICE: a story that introduces and gives the origin and destiny of the magic user Syzygy Darklock. You may notice some parallels between him and the 70's version of Adam Warlock.

I quite enjoyed the two preliminary works, but for some reasons never got into Dreadstar. I tried ... I thought the original book was okay ... but never managed to connect with the series after that.

The series did take a little getting used to at first. It wasn't your basic punch the bad guys story which at the time was a bit unusual.

The parallel between Adam Warlock and Syzygy was that in the 70's Warlock altered his own personal timeline so that he would not become the Magus.

He entered the timestream and saw the paths his life could take, the main one being that of the Magus. He used his gem to cleanse then shatter that time line, but to finish the job before the Inbetweener could still get him and make him into the Magus, Warlock ran along the shortest alternate path.

He emerged 6 months into the future and facilitated his future self's demise. After that Warlock had some knowledge of what his fate was and knew how much time he had left. Later he learns he was the chosen one and that his destiny was to save the cosmos from THANOS.

Syzygy was already an advanced level magic wielder who was manipulated into obtaining more raw power then he could handle. After he recovered he confronts the one behind it all and learns of the grand scheme that he could be involved with. He then looks into a crystal ball and gets a quick vision of the future and how he and Dreadstar can/will change the cosmos for the better but at a terrible cost for Syzygy. he then learns that by viewing the future, the future has viewed him and that the future was now locking into place. So Syz knows things are coming for him and that he has paid a terrible price already with more to come.

The revelation about him in issue #13 made him even more interesting.
