The correct Nick Fury in a weird battle suit. Gyrich. Leather jackets. Big Hank. The correct Spider-Woman. War Machine and USAgent. Crystal. Sersi. Some guy in long hair saying, "That could take months, Fury!"
I actually failed to read a lot of that era but I caught some of it and to be honest, none of it ever bothered me and some of it I liked. I really wish we could have Big Hank, War Machine, USAgent, and the correct Spider-Woman in stories again. Maybe we will. And as for the correct Nick Fury, don't get me started.
I could do without Gyrich and leather jackets but I would take them both in a hot minute over the stories we've had this century - until right exactly now. "No Surrender" is the first fun Avengers story for me in like forever. Meanwhile, the era depicted in our banner never failed to be fun.
Nostalgic for this era?
I try not to be nostalgic about any era in comics (whether I always succeed is a matter for another debate). Personally I feel that nostalgia tends to have negative effects - firstly it tends to diminish a reader's enjoyment of modern stuff, and secondly nostalgic creators have an unfortunate tendency to muck things up by trying to return comics to what they through rose-tinted glasses and a selective memory regard as a state of grace...
