I remember the advertisement for it in the comics but I never played the game.

I played the game A LOT as a kid when it came out! I think it was one of the first point-and-click video games ever released, and the one I played was for the 8-bit NES. The gameplay was VERY addicting; I didn't own one, I rented it four days in a row, as there were also multiple endings, among other goodies. I had a subscription to Nintendo Power magazine, which was the thing to do at the time, and one issue even had a walkthrough for the game.

This is the prequel to "Day of the Tentacle"

We had it on PC for DOS in glorious monochrome (our family monitor was amber colored).

I don't know if there was a glitch or something but we could get about halfway through the game and then there was a locked door that required a code to be entered. We had the code sheet that came with the game instructions but none of the codes would open the door, so we never got any further than that. It was fun up until then.

My friend later got Day of the Tentacle in full color with real voices too. I didn't play it but I watched him and it looked fun. I did play a couple of the Monkey Island games, also point-and-clicks from LucasArts.
