It really wasn't anything like the Phoenix. Her Kree-ness was the reason behind what the Brood did to her. So, it had a lot to do with her Ms. Marvel history. It was a way for her to be better than before while Rogue kept the Ms. Marvel powers.

She spent 16 years as Binary. She wasn't "soon back" as Warbird, at all. But yes, those many years with the Starjammers really didn't amount to much.
