Spoken in the voice of Decepticon Soundwave: "Babylon 5, superior! DS9, inferior!" Does the show look a bit dated? Well tech is always changing and the show was from the 90's and I don't recall it having the greatest budget in the world. JMS wasnt even sure if he'd get a 5th season and then his "green book" with his S5 ideas was apparently stolen from his hotel room. Money issues are the main reason why the show has not been put up to Blu Ray, as most props are gone and sets destroyed it would require a total revamp of the CGI and FX, ala Star Wars Special Editions but if JMS were in charge I am sure it would be done right and not to excess like Star Wars Special editions. Also in addition to the PSi Corp trilogy and Legions of Fire trilogy of B5 novels there is also the Technomage Trilogy as well. All are canon per JMS along with this particular novel https://www.amazon.com/Dream-City-Sorrows-Babylon/dp/0345452194 which deals with Sinclair after he was reassigned There is also 3 issue comic miniseries In Valen's Name that serves as an aftermath to the big two parter in Season 3 As to Season 1, yep it had its perils and pitfalls but yes the pilot movie MUST be watched as things in it to reverberate through the series. Another good season 1 ep was how each culture demonstrated its religion and everyone was wondering what Earth would do. Also the ep where Sinclair was locked into the VR interrogation system is a must watch also. The episode with Deathwalker was another one, I still laugh at how that was resolved. Patrica Tallman/Lyta Alexander her departure was unfortunate as I liked her over Talia, also more attractive to me. But I suspect that the whole Lyta/Talia thing could become B5's equivalent of Ginger/Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island (mary ann!) As I recall, her departure I think was part money and partly due to maternity leave, can't recall for sure. But her return to me was a blessing as I didn't like Talia the character that much. Talia's departure seemed a bit out of left field though but might tie into that episode with Control. Also I don't think her departure was all that graceful given what we learned from Bester. Also Talia's departure leaves a dangling plot thread with that VCR but that's okay. Patrica/Lyta's return was most welcomed. Also the show clearly showed that the good guys are not always so good, and we do get the villains' point of view as well and it was rather well done. Also a great ep in Season 2: when Kosh summons the Vorlon's Inquisitor! Too bad Mr. Morden and the Inquisitor never met, that could have been both an epic discussion and fight. | |||||||
