Anyone here listen to Devo? Of course I knew Whip It back in the day. And songs like Working In A Coal Mine from Heavy Metal.

But I watched one of their old songs on YouTube and it led me down the rabbit hole. I don't think I ever listened to much of their output, and I'm liking it now. I think there were songs I'd heard and didn't know they were Devo like Girl U Want.

Oh I know, it was that new song that was just released from Devo's Gerald Casale "I'm Gonna Pay U Back" which I don't know if I love it, but I can't quite get it out of my head.

Their old 80s videos were very inventive. These guys were called punk/new wave at the time. I thought they were just nerds.

It's funny seeing them on old shows like Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin, with guys in suits trying to make sense of these oddballs.

I never knew until now that Disney Channel commissioned a Devo cover band called Devo 2.0 back around 2005 made up of 12 year old kids. I guess the Casale Brothers signed off on it. They said for their songs to be sanitized and kiddiefied by Disney was proof of Devolution. They helped produce the music and videos. And they said it would have a secondary effect of kids who grow up on the Disney version will one day seek out the originals on YouTube and have their eyes opened.

I think these guys were pretty ahead of their time.

Love DEVO! Jocko Homo! Gates of Steel! Uncontrollable Urge! They're very underrated, imo.

City of Heroes is BACK!
