There's been some commentary to that effect, but it doesn't really hold up, what with Harry Osborn being alive, Liz Allen being out of the picture, Venom being neither Eddie Brock nor Mac Gargan (revealed in one of the interviews), and all kinds of other changes not explained by anything more than "magic."
