> a.) Marvel won't allow it long term after they just went to all the trouble to end the marriage. Peter will never be married again. Pretty much any relationship he's in is doomed to failure (probably b/c of Spiderman).
> b.) Fans won't accept it b/c she's not MJ (or to a lesser extent Gwen, which honestly seems to be who a lot of the anti-marriage crowd is).
Absolutely. One of the problems with OMD/BND set-up is that since everyone even outside of comics regards MJ as being "Spider-Man's true love" or his "Lois Lane" (especially since Marvel actively promotes her as such even now) that any other woman Peter does get involved with will instantly be in her shadow and compared to MJ.
However, I certainly would expect Marvel to pair up Peter and Lily since it would be an inter-racial relationship involving a high profile comic book character, one they could easily promote in press releases. Remember, Marvel pretty much admitted that one of the reasons why they had Black Panther and Storm get married was so they could increase comic book readership among women and African Americans. Having Spider-Man, who is their flagship character, having a new girlfriend who is a minority could be an second attempt at doing the same thing.
What I hope they won't do, if this is the direction they are heading, is when they do get objections such as Lily is just a carbon copy of Mary Jane or Liz Allen, that Peter and MJ should get back together, that Lily isn't that much of a character, etc., that Marvel doesn't turn around and accuse their critics of being racists and against inter-racial couples. They got into that problem when folks started complaining about the marriage between Black Panther and Storm.
