Oh, he certainly knew that it would generate some emotional responses. That doesn't make his thoughts on the subject known and it certainly doesn't make him a homophobe. One can't know his personal thoughts on the subject with the words he used. Anyone reacting to it with statements about Guggenheim's bias is saying so from their own perspective on the matter, not by the statement he made.
