Unless something happened to her in the past that involved politics. For instance, maybe someone close to her got killed and the murderer got away with it because he/she knew some politicians. Perhaps Carlie realized the power of politics and decided, as Menace, to get a piece of the action, so to speak. She was motivated by the power that lied in dealing with politics, in other words.
