Lord knows I'd love to see Kaine again - probably more than any other single character in the Marvel Universe. But the way he was mentioned makes me leery: that Wacker would "like to see [him] made into something interesting."

Um...he's not already interesting? Sorry, I think he's got more potential than any other character. A damaged (both physically and mentally) clone of Peter Parker with crazy-huge powers, a demand for vengeance from those who seek to hurt Peter, the new questions about whether he remembers who Peter, and therefore who he, is - this guy is about as interesting as comically possible.
