Actually, the "package" is a Joe Q clone; he'll remain Editor-in-Chief forever! 8) Sorry, it's Friday... Ahem, as regards post-Venom villainy? I have to admit, that's a stumper. I don't think anyone since has really had the same impact, for so long. Venom, after all, wasn't just Michelinie's pet character for a few years back in the 90s. Subsequent writers have continued to use the character; that's the real test. Of what other Spidey villain, introduced in the past 20 years, can that be said? Of course, when you start out with such a magnificent rogues' gallery, like Spider-Man, or the Fantastic Four, e.g., the odds of introducing major new foes are going to drop, if only because a majority of stories are going to be used simply to keep the classic baddies in circulation. Whereas, say, the X-Men have had many more post-Silver-Age villains reach the big time because, other than Magneto, and I suppose Juggernaut and Sentinels, what truly memorable foes did they have in the early days? Spidey, by comparison, was fending off a six-member union composed entirely of his own opponents within a few years of his debut! And, every single one has proved to be a lasting presence. (Even Kraven, though dead... last I checked... left a legacy of active, related characters.) Face it, Tiger: You hit the supervillain jackpot! ![]() *Wraith | |||||||
