Any thumbs up after this ish
My (fan) suggestion for this "selling a Recycled Supervillain Identity scam" has always been for The Auctioneer since Alpha Flight #42
(it was my No-Prize suggestion to try'n fix the crazy continuity logic of so many of those C&B-listers appearing across the border there). This theme doesn't suit Roderick given his criminal canon and fugitive status - it seems it might have more potential staying power with a more gimmick-dedicated villain (Auctioneer sells supervillain suits like Tinkerer tinkers tech for badguys). Heh, y'know what might make this work (temporarily)? Maybe Hobgoblin stole
the idea from the Canadian criminal cosplay king?
The whole setup with the "I'm a convert" speech was not believable at all, even after having read Axis #3 and (thoughtfully) recommended - nor after reading Magneto #11
for that matter! (Of course, maybe that was the point.) Also, his overhyped rise to anti-villain, underground hero, and marketable peer to Tony Robbins & Co.
felt rushed WAY TOO MUCH.
The story and art was so promising with that first inviting page (and neat hem line analogy) then the issue all turned to barely servicable. It hardly feels an AXIS crossover as solicited either.
The followup on the Goblin King storyline was interesting enough as his flashback to The Loners
was fan friendly. If someone could annotate all the codenames with (underplayed) Easter Eggs cameos would be fun to check too. Thumbs up homage to Action Comics #1
. And the new storyline developing for ex-Menace Lily Hollister was the most intriguing element and epilogue of the story. Time to start the poll of underused ex-villain(ess) for a wishlist of names we'd like to see her assume! It appears this 'John Myers
' will need to copy a codename too, eh.
I miss Dad and Dan.
Are they making Roderick into an anti-villain/more heroic? If so, that's TERRIBLE! That's just a poor fit for the character, given everything that he's done. I've been clamoring for writers to do something with him in terms of giving him a backstory, but this? No, just no! Roderick is a cold rotter at the core, and while I would like to get some insights as to his background and psychological profile, making him into an anti-villain just sounds wrong for the character. He's just heartless.
I hear that they're doing the same thing with Carnage too, of all people. I mean, Carnage for god's sakes. He's right up thee with Bullseye and Sabretooth in terms of sadism.
I'm really only interested in this because of Roddy. And heck, maybe they'll even bring back Jason Macendale. Well, I kind of hope that they do.
