This past Tuesday afternoon Spider-Man writer Dan Slott tweeted this warning to Marvel readers: "Set your watch. Your next Spider-Man related freak out is on the way."

Slott wasn't just whistling Dixie. EW has premiered Marvel's latest "Summer 2015" teaser (which we're still convinced are all related to Secret Wars) and it's another callback to an iconic and now controversial moment in Spider-Man history - his wedding to Mary Jane Watson in 1987's Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21, undone in 2007's One More Day storyline ... but with a twist.

At another site the teaser picture is juxtaposed with a picture of Lucy holding the football and waiting for Charlie Brown to kick it:

That's probably a good metaphor for my feelings at the moment. I'm 98 per cent sure that the ball is going to be yanked away at the last moment and our hearts will once again be broken, but I am to some extent hooked and may actually end up buying the issues in question anyway just on the 1-2 % chance.(1) I'd feel a lot more optimistic with a different creative and editorial team given the past form of the one in charge of Spider-Man now...

(1) It should be noted that Charles M. Schulz in one year actually did not have Lucy pull away the ball at the last moment. Unfortunately Charlie missed and accidentally kicked Lucy's head.

The image (which also includes the copy "Renew Your Vows") doesn't just call out the wedding, but seemingly suggests an alternate reality in which MJ's and Mary Jane's child wasn't seemingly mysteriously abducted by Norman Osborn (Mary Jane believed the baby was stillborn) and pretty much never heard from in the 616 again, much to the chagrin of Spider-Man fans at the time. There was, of course, another alternate universe where she grew up as Mayday Parker and became Spider-Girl, in the MC2 world, but even there we didn't see a modern-day Spidey and MJ raising her as a younger child.

Two notes:
1. Mayday is a brunette, the daughter shown on the teaser image is a redhead, so it seems likely to me that she is a different person (conceived and born some time after Peter and Mary Jane lost baby May), maybe even the potential daughter we saw during OMD.
2. We got some glimpses of Peter and MJ raising little Mayday in the "Mr. and Mrs. Spider-Man" stories by Tom DeFalco in Spider-Man Family.
