I certainly understand where you're coming from. I personally was underwhelmed by Peter David's Friendly Neighborhood title and I thought DeFalco's re-telling of the Clone Saga was quite bad. It seems like the general consensus is DeFalco's second run on a Spider book was also received poorly around here, though I don't know if I've read it recently enough to have a solid opinion on it.

But in contrast, I think the handful of things Roger Stern has done for Spidey over the last few years have all been good, albeit very short one or two issue things.

And let's not forget also that Gerry Conway already returned to the books long after his original run--and nailed it. There's no reason he couldn't do it again.

And the audience was different. His writing would have to change to adapt to today's storytelling.
