I just bought a rare spiderman comic. Before I tell you what I picked up, I was curious as to your rarest comic book. By rare, I mean extremely low print run or variant that was hard to get. The one I got was my holy grail. What is yours?

I was hopeing that this topic would get all kinds of posts about the rarest books out there (the Spider-man 184 All detergent variant, The Spider-man Reign recalled book that shows Peter's genitals, or even new ones like the Amazing 700 Ditko variant that have low print runs), but maybe I am in the extreme minority in wanting to own rare Spider-man variants.

Anyway, here is the story of what I picked up!

In 2008 there was a hero initiative variant of Ultimate Spiderman 100 that Marvel printed with a "blank" cover that was sent out to artists to sketch their own cover. The top artists in the industry participated and the proceeds went to charity. There were a little over 100 of these covers that were auctioned off. These now sell for as low as 3000 for lesser desired artists, and big $ for McFarlane or Romita (and keep in mind that there is only 1 of each). Now since then, there have been 2 copies (that I have seen) of the blank copy that have popped up. These are really not supposed to exist as Marvel did not release these to the public. Well, one came up for auction and I snagged it. So, I can only guess as to the number of these out there, but my guess would be less than 25 or so. CGC has 1 graded, so there may be less than that. Anyway, now I have one and to a collector, having a super rare book has a great reward feeling to it.

And as I said before, I dont have an Amazing Fantasy #15 yet, but there are tousands of those that I could buy at any time (If I had the money). With this, it is very hard to get one because they are never up for sale. That, to me at least, is pretty cool.

By the way, if anyone wants that Amazing 184 All Detergent variant, someone has one on ebay for only 3,000$ lol. I hope my rare book is worth that some day!!
