I've often thought Slott as that kid who just gathers all of his action figures and shouts out action commands and starts smashing them together and going PSHGH or GRRHGH or whatever types of sounds 10 year boys make when playing with action figures. This story is pretty much Slott playing with his Spider-Man action figures.

You're right : that is exactly what the story is.

Actually, I think that Dan Slott is literally the most comic book writer of all comics writers.

I have a hard time to explain what I try to mean :
A lot of comics writers are actually graphic novel writers.
Vertigo writers are actually trying to do litterature.
Many writers try to make a scenario like what they would do for a movie or a TV series.

But Dan Slott writes comics like Stan Lee, Tom Defalco or Geoff Johns.
And, since, he is also a longtime fan of the medium, he actually writes like a kid playing with his action figures.
That's the perfect metaphor.
