There seem to be quite a few Spider-people out there. Maybe it's time to clean the house.

Most of the Spider-people in the book are verses that are not regularly visited, and there are a handful that are created specifically for this event. I'm sure House Cleaning will happen but you know, a universe doesn't really bother anybody if it is left alone.

Ain't that the truth! Honestly, what "harm" had most of them done anyway, since apart from - I think - Miguel O'Hara and Mayday most of them had not even appeared in any story for ages, let alone interacted with the mainstream reality?

The arguments of "house cleaning" and "there's just too many characters" are generally bogus anyway. Mark Gruenwald later regretted having killed off so many minor supervillains via the Scourge of the Underworld arc (feeling that a lot of interesting stuff could have been done with most of them), the depowering of all but 198 mutants caused only resentment among readers, and even DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths in the end only made things even more complicated than before.

With Spider-verse you just get a feeling that Dan Schlock derives a feeling of self-importance from beating up and killing off as many alternate Spider-Men as possible, means-spiritedly wanting to punish people for enjoying them (having enjoyed them years ago in some cases). Especially if these Spider-Men are in a stable relationship with their Mary Jane.
