Previous Post

We learn what Kingpin wants with Boomerang. Shortly after he assisted the uprising against Hydracap in Secret Empire, Fred was approached by an elderly historian who had worked at New York's records department for over fifty years cataloguing various mystical artefacts. He discovered that the lifeline tablet had returned to this dimension, scattered into several pieces.

He uses the mystic arts to channel the map to the fragments into Fred. Spidey agrees to help Fred and they begin seeking out the fragments, leading them into the sewers where they fend off the Vermin clones. We cut back to Kingpin, who of course wants the lifeline to help bring back Vanessa. His chief researchers tell him the artefact was brought back to this dimension by something...or someone, within the last year or so. Fred finds the fragment but he and Spidey are then attacked by Gog.

POST-CREDIT SCENE: The Lethal Legion reunite and attack Project Pegasus, as Count Nefaria, reveals the Chameleon has copied all the research notes for 'The Catalyst'. Having killed several men at the project, they make their exit, with Sin Eater watching over them

My thoughts:

Great beginning to what are hopefully a lot of pay-offs this year. Fred and Peter on a fun time adventure looking for macguffins delights me to no end. Kingpin's motivation for becoming Mayor is revealed at last...but it boils down as always to regaining the lost love in his life, and using a most familiar item to attain it. Gog's return brings me great memories of his oh-so-brief stint as a Sinister Six member too.

Yeah, a fun issue. And that's inspite of no particular stand out moment. Okay, the press interviewing Boomerang 'the hero' was fun. Plus, the cover was appropriately spot on hilarious.

Hmm... so we're assuming Spidey did not kill any Vermin clones and, what, Fred probably killed a bunch?

The Return of a new Legion was promising even if many of the villains appear thru a 'Revolving Door'. It will be interesting to see if Luchino's revenge priorities will ever include Superior Octopus for threatening his Italian family in Spider-Geddon #1 or if the plotline with The Catalyst will touch on Old Man Logan #1 where Count Nefaria, other supervillains and -coincidentally- Whirlwind killed off NYC heroes galore. Just ..err.. counting the days to finding out Nefaria's endgame plans.
