I thought they said they didn't have plans to merge the two (or is it 53) universes?

Personally I don't see the point of merging the two universes. They've established a multiverse and these characters have interacted for a few seasons now. Kara and Alex popping over to an alternate timeline for a wedding is just the type of goofy stuff I expect from these shows.
