Could you imagine a midget playing Superman simply because someone was too lazy to hire a tall guy for the part? What if the show runners didn't want him from Krypton but instead wanted him as a Mutant instead? What if they wanted him to have a third eye? What if they wanted SuperMAN to be SuperWOMAN? What if they wanted Superman to have no powers at all, but some really strong guy who has it as a nickname?

Well, those would all certainly be very odd creative decisions, and sure, they might not work out well. But I definitely wouldn't attribute any of that to someone being lazy.

What if the show runners actually did their jobs by hiring the actress to play a version of Reign where she wears Grey make up and spend hours in the gym to look the part of a muscular amazon instead of the trash we got?

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to find a tall female bodybuilder who can also act well? I don't. I don't imagine there are many of those around. They just have to go with the actresses they can actually get. And they have to work within a TV show schedule, I doubt that leaves anywhere near enough time to bulk someone up.

Besides, if Reign had gray skin and an alien appearance, it would be pretty hard for her to pass as a human for most of her life. So that wouldn't really work for the show.

Are YOU actually claiming there is something wrong about sticking to the original source material by criticizing me for my stance?

Oh no, certainly not. But if the show runners want to take it in a different direction, that's okay too, and it's not due to laziness. That's just their creative decisions. If it makes a good show, there's nothing wrong with that.

The show runners want to base a show off of Supergirl, great. But that doesn't give them the right to butcher known comic characters simply because they feel like it.

WHOA WHOA WHOA, HOLD ON THERE BUDDY! They don't have the right?! THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT?!? By what authority?! Now that, right there, is overstepping your bounds. You're the one who doesn't have the right to decide what the show runners are and aren't allowed to do with their own show. You don't own it. It's not your intellectual property. It's not for you to decide that. You can say what you will about the show, and you don't have to like it, and you don't have to watch it, but you do NOT get to dictate terms for what the show is allowed to do. They are not beholden to you. They probably don't even know who you are.

Did you know that Michael Bay wanted to turn the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into aliens at one point? That sure would have rubbed me the wrong way, and I don't know how that movie would have turned out, and I'm glad they didn't go with that idea, and I don't think I would have seen that movie if they'd gone that way, but I certainly would never have disputed Bay's right to do that. And of all the things I would call him for that, "lazy" wouldn't be one of them.

What is the point of using them if they aren't anything at all like their comic counterpart? No point at all, so why bother even doing a show called "Supergirl"?

Because that's just what the show runners wanted to do.

They might as well have tried reviving the TV show called Heroes instead.

That did happen. It didn't turn out that well.

And yet, you act like there is something wrong with my opinion when your criticising it. I have every right to my opinion,

And you know what? Everybody else has every right to theirs.

Here's a perfect example of how to change a character without butchering her. Jane Foster is a nurse in the comics, but in the movie she was a scientist who studies stars. It worked for the film because a nurse wouldn't have, not without changing the movie...a lot. But guess what, Jane still looked like Jane. She was still the same at her core. THAT is how one changes a character. In the comics, Reign has grey skin and has huge muscles. In the show, she has a lame costume with a background that isn't even remotely close to the comics. That is how one does NOT change a character because then that character is in name only and nothing more. So the next time you want to criticize me for crying foul over a butchered job, you might want to think about the comparison I just gave long and hard. You might also want to try respecting another person's opinion instead of criticizing people like me for sharing it because it comes off the wrong way.

So is the show basically just taking an existing name and applying it to what is otherwise an original character? Pretty much, yeah. This show does that a lot. So what?

You think her costume looks bad? Okay, sure. You can say that.

Is this treatment of the character dishonoring or disrespectful to the source material? You can certainly see it that way.

But to accuse anyone on the show of laziness on that basis? I find that accusation to be baseless, undeserved, and to be honest, rather disrespectful.

And you know what? I'm allowed to say that to you, for the same reason you have the right to say all those things you said. And I do respect your opinions, but I don't have to agree with them.
