It's strange looking back to the original Silver/Bronze-Age Brainiac and remembering he was a human computer, an artificial being. It's such an odd idea for the time, and looking at him he isn't anything special visually so It's one of those strange quirks that this is a character who beat the odds to become a regular fixture and one of Superman's top three villains historically. Really to my mind he didn't come of age as a character until the Marv Wolfman revamp in Action Comics #544, a fine modernisation and updating of a very dated and bizarre character.
So, you had that original Brainiac. The 1983 Update. Milton Fine in Adventures of Superman. A mutated and transformed green skinned Milton Fine in Action #649. And after that incarnation is incinerated in 'the Doomsday Wars'... well, several! Brainiac 13 was notable in particular.
Infinite Crisis reset the character and we learn that all of the Brainiac's we had seen till this point were substitutes, avatars of the real Brainiac, who we finally get to meet and he looks to be a modern version of the pre-crisis green skinned version, albeit now flesh and blood.
He's a strange character Brainiac. He started life in the Silver-age as a sort of Pirate of the Space-ways, slowly developed into an android, was additionally handed a hobby of shrinking Cities from the worlds he visited, and it is that that arguably became his most distinctive feature. It's almost the case that successive creative regimes keep trying to adjust him and find a rationale for the character to exist and rule by. In the modern age he is viewed by Superman as an interstellar bogeyman from Krypton's past, a predator. But much like Luthor these days it appears DC don't quite know what to do with him...
Thanks! he is now called the Collector, correct? Appears to go ascross Universe and gathers remnants of races to possess? Ehat was that version of Him in Convergence, as that one seemed to be a Cosmic being?
So current Brainy is Superman powerful physically, and has his vast knowledge and mental powers also?
