I think the movie has done and continues to do fairly well considering its competition. For all practical purposes, Thor Ragnarok has buried Justice League, not that Justice League has done all that bad, but considering expectations, it has bombed.

My wife and I are planning to see Ragnarok again tomorrow night with my sister and brother-in-law, neither of which has seen the movie. I am hoping that it still is in the theater tomorrow night. (Update: Just checked theater listings for tomorrow and it doesn't look promising.)

Thor Ragnarok is poised to pass Star Wars III. Regarding GOTG2, Thor Ragnarok only is $20M behind not counting last night. This surprises me a bit because Thor Ragnarok was so much better than GOTG2. But then again, GOTG2 didn't have much competition.

To a point, Guardians also had a ton of positive buzz. The first film was very much enjoyed by a large segment and was also part of the Marvel hot streak of films leading into it.

I am not sure I would totally agree that Thor is a vastly better movie. Both are good. Guardians had some more flaws to it this go around that were a bit harder to stomach but it was still good.

Thor was coming off of one of the more poorly received Marvel sequels. That it rebounded and did so well is a testament to how good it was.
