You all do realize that this Hulk was motivated by admiration and applause? This made him unable to achieve his staple powers of getting angrier and stronger and harder to battle with. This Hulk was trying to god on to a comfortable living as a legend in the ring with his custom hot tub toys and room like a 10 year old???
Thor’s better showing was pretty hollow considering that he was in his own self titled movie and basically received a power up pretty much.
    Just Saying

You do realize Hulk hasn't ever needed anyone or anything to excuse him from getting angrier thus stronger? He wasn't being mind controlled, he wasn't being blackmailed with someone's life at stake he cared about. He simply wanted to prove to everyone in the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions that he was the strongest one there is. Therefore the choice was all his, as well as the outcome written into the history pages for worldwide audiences to see.

As far as hammer-less Thor receiving a power-up for the movie...hmmmm if I recall correctly he had the same power-ability in Oeming's Disassembled Ragnarok series.

Now how in the world did that happen? ;\)
