Galactus just lost a big fight. It happens. There's no honor in defeat. Galactus has certainly given this treatment to other great characters. Power levels fluctuate and different creators have different thoughts about them.

Also Galactus is a universal character. I imagine he'll come back eventually. But I agree with what Chen and others have said: people on the internet have unjustifiably certain and fixed ideas of various power levels and this is a good lesson in how those aren't necessarily reflected by the comics. There's no reason that the Asgardian pantheon should be less powerful than "cosmic" entities like Galactus. Those strict limitations are projected by fans, but Thor comocs don't need to be constrained by them.
