Another “ Journey into Mystery” type story which relates back to 1962. Also, this is the first part of this “Prey” storyline, which Cates has said is a horror story, or Thorror story
Some months ago I saw a panel drawn by Nic Klein relating to this future arc and it had a dragon/reptile face drawn on it.
Is this the actual enemy that is stalking Thor as “ prey”?
This sounds intriguing.
I don’t really have a feeling one way or another. While the paradox of what DB actually is was supposedly put to bed years ago, it wasn’t. I’m still not sure what the absolute, definitive story is supposed to be, as it’s been retconned several times and to my mind there was no consistent theme.
Also, Blake is such an intrinsic part of Thor and the underlying principle of the superhero no less: the alter ego. So while Thor outgrew the need for Blake, has Superman outgrown the need for Clarke Kent? I think when Stan and Jack started appending JiM with Tales of Asgard the writing was on the wall for Blake right there. So no, Thor doesn’t need Blake - I think that was Tom DeFalco’s biggest errors with Thor; thinking he needed a new human alter ego, but I don’t have a problem with Blake’s resurgence at all. Dan Jurgens also created Jake Olson and Walt created Siguard Jarlson. These are writers who, probably for the same reasons as Stan though a character as galaxy-spanning as Thor needed balancing with some down to earth, human drama. Whilst I think we’ve outgrown that trope I’m not resistant to Donny Cates exploring that aspect. Hopefully it’ll be something of a definite study, rather than an ongoing shared persona.
