Dan Jurgens also created Jake Olson and Walt created Siguard Jarlson. These are writers who, probably for the same reasons as Stan though a character as galaxy-spanning as Thor needed balancing with some down to earth, human drama.

Sigurd Jarlson was simply a costume change, a la Clark Kent or Harry Cleese.

Simonson more or less wrapped up the human identity. Although Siguard did lead to Eric Masterson under DeFalco, since they worked at the same construction site.

I fear that based on Cates' propensity for weaving multiple story elements into something relating to *his* larger storyline, Donald Blake and Thor's very origin will become irrevocably linked to Cates and his corner of continuity.

This is different than Oeming or Walt or Stan Lee, who were trying to close down these threads, not unravel them. And where goes the thread, so goes the sweater.

I love your analogy. But don't you get tired, when the thread goes back to the beginning, a new stitch is used, and the remainder, of the sweater doesn't work with the new stitch?
