So along came RE:Generation One, an attempt to "finish" the Marvel G1 series even though it pretty much WAS finished after the Unicron War.
The G2 series was thankfully ignored.
So it is 20 years or so later, Optimus has PTSD and has sensed that Hot Rod is the key to the future and has been mentoring him in his fortress of solitude.
Meanwhile Earth was wrecked by Megatron and his lobotomized transformer army.
Soundwave leads the charge and blows up the Last Autobot as start of a new war and Bludgeon wants the pieces of Thunderwing to leech matrix energy residue from them to animate a new army
Hot Rod slowly starts to take over and is eventually led allegedly by PRIMUS to obtain the Covenant and Sword of Primus. Hot Rod shows he is more mature thanks to Optimus' teachings and isn't quite prone to rush into a fight.
he also makes a piece of sorts with the first creations of Primus.
Grimlock has found a way to overcome the Nucleon poisoning and is a transformer again and after beating Scorponok's plans the tech to rebuild new TF bodies is introduced and slowly but surely they all are getting rebuilt, including new bodies for the heads of the Headmasters.
Hot Rod eventually starts tiem warping thanks to "primus" and learns things then is sent to what would be the Rhythms of Darkness timeline and once there he ensures that timeline is indeed a loss by distracting his alternate Rodimus Prime self in fight and the Matrix conveniently lands next to him. Hot Rod claims it and is warped home and declares he is RODIMUS PRIME.
We get a wrap up of the Underbase, and a brief appearance of Jhiaxus and the G2 Cybertronians, thankfully no Liege Maximo.
Rodimus leads well but is overall totally suckered by teh DARK MATRIX energy which has grown in power and has now corrupted all of Cybertron and all inhabitants.
To vanquish it, he calls upon every dimensional version of himself and they all defeat the Dark matrix creature. Yet at a cost, apparently without a Primus all TF's are now apparently "mortal" and their sparks eventually go out and they perish one by one over the millennia .
We also of course get yet ANOTHER Rodimus/Optimus fight since Optimus fell under sway of the Dark Matrix and had to be stopped for good.
Yet somehow despite the presence of all the Rodimus Prime's each of which carry a matrix, Cybertron cannot be cleansed and the TF race saved....!?!?!?!?? Logic error, the power of the matrix blew up Unicron and its energy started a planet wide reformat to heal and cleanse cybertron. So all those Matrix of Leadership couldn't do the same thing again???
Rodimus is of course the last to die and somehow his death and the matrix energy then cleanses the planet and a new generation arises.....
This is a timeline where one could say Rodimus was the harbinger of DOOM to the TF's.
Overall a bad end to the G1 Marvel series.
