I know the writers felt viewers were too sympathetic to him and showed him more directly evil at the end, but I was disappointing that he ended up bot crazy and possessed. It took too many nuances and subtleties out of his character. He was fantastic when ambiguous.

I guess I was never disappointed with him going full evil. I loved the episode Waltz where he and Sisko argue about what kind of guy Dukat really is and he just flips out and embraces his real feelings towards the Bajorans.

The subtlety was gone but I think the time for subtlety was over. The Dominion had more or less absorbed Cardassia at that point. His time of political maneuvering was over after his fall from grace. He really was a bad guy underneath it all even though he did have some good points.

I can't say I liked him as much after Waltz. Without the Cardassian military he did became more of a super villain.

Waltz was amazing, I just thought having him both be nuts and possessed undermined a lot of the multi faceted personality they showed before. I'd have rather seen him rationalize his way into total evil with his usual self focused morals and personality than have both of those "excuses."
