    Rick's group brought it on themselves. They began murdering people willy nilly and are now shocked they're fighting back.

    Rick's a bad leader.

    The saviors are evil...but they didn't pick this fight.

True, they got over confident. They never dealt with an organization larger than their own.

I've always thought Rick was a bad leader. He's a military/war leader, not a peace time leader.

Not sure what they could have done different. Letting gangster extort people wasn't an option, because they need to trade to survive.

And the Saviors would have eventually come knocking on Alexandria.
