You said the characters received mental torture. I think I the viewer was tortured too. That was brutal. I'm still shaking and crying. I feel like I went through it too. I have half a mind to not watch again until I know Rick has killed Negan.

I liked it. Glenn dead? Good. He never should have survived the bit at the dumpster last season. His living through that was my breaking point from the show. I came back over the long summer and caught up but I'd much rather have intelligent and brutal than stupid happy endings.

I never wanted Glenn to die at the dumpster. I had been hoping for him to meet up with Lucille for so long. That whole digression last year seriously annoyed me. Like you have the whiny fans who care about these horribly written characters who bought into it and then you had the annoying fans who thought Glenn could never going to die. I'm glad they killed him the right way. Death by Lucille was the death I wanted.

Abraham was a throw away character whose subplot was wasting screen time so no loss there either.

I like the actor but the character kind of annoyed me. He just seemed to be crafted in a such a manipulative way where he'd speak weird things that fans would turn into catch phrases. Even after all the time he was on the show he and Eugene and Rosita were always the new guys to me.

As for Negan....all I can say is finally. Finally someone who gets it. He makes perfect sense in this world and is a logical progression from Shane's survival of the fittest attitude to the Governor's benevolent dicatorship. Negan is the first character who actually gets what is going in. He knows what the reality of this new world is and he's acting accordingly.

I like his practicality. I could see Shane being Negan say 5 years into the apocalypse. Negan's what you get when you get real and realize you can't be the hero...you just have to serve your own group's best interests.

In my head I think of Negan as a guy whose just been through similar things Rick has and just given up on morality. He's embraced being a jerk instead of giving into despair or always trying and failing to do the right thing.
