Also to save me a trip to Wiki, who is Damien Hirst and how clever was that (presumably realworld)tidbit? Will have to check the Marvel bio on PARADIGM too - first time reading of him also.

Damien Hirst is an artist (and British, too, I think. My memory isn't what it was), who gained notoriety for creating a piece of art that was solely composed of half a cow floating in formaldehyde.

You're right there he is British. Big in the Mid 90's, one of the YBA (young british artists)Charles Saatchi is/was one of his biggest patrons.

Technically (though i could have this backwards it's been a while since Saatchi's warehouse burned down) it was half a sheep; and then he produced both halves of a cow and calf in separate tanks (4 tanks total. He also did crossections (think that was a cow again)and a whole, intact shark. He was up for the Turner prize a couple of times, i think, but i don't know if he won it. Pretty sure the Tate own the cow/calf but don't think it's on permenant display in the Tate Modern as Emma implies.
