I totally think there is connection. A book called Legacy and you have the daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey. THe daughter retcon or not of Magneto and the brother of Cyclops. I think Havok and Polaris were really meant to be the next mutant royalty anyway. I love the idea of them joining the team. I also don't love the space story but maybe it will be only a couple issues and then we can get into some great stories.
While I'd enjoyed the Xavier era of Legacy, the era of "Rogue and the bottom of the barrel of the Academy-X generation, the kids too obscure for anyone to have bothered killing" really wasn't doing anything for me at all. I know some people have been thrilling to the adventures of Trance, Bling, Load, Anole and Tattoo Guy, but I really wasn't one of them, and just wanted the Sentinels to eat them so I wouldn't have to read about them anymore.
So this series revamping into a proper X-team, and one with Xavier, Our Lord Magneto, Rogue, Gambit, and Frenzy already had me interested, but bringing back Havok, Polaris and Marvel Girl? Yes, this is taking a good idea, and making it even better (also, please follow up on the last Xavier issue, and what's happening with the rest of the Acolytes).
As for them starting off with a voyage into outer space, yeah, I'm not exactly wild about that, but look at it as by this point being a necessary evil to bring Alex, Lorna and Rachel back into the books. War of Kings ended like two years ago, and they supposedly went back home, but just never got there, because the X-books never bothered to take them back. By now, you can't just have them show up like they've been back on Earth for months and we just never saw them because they were lurking in the background, taking time off and going to Disneyland, or stuck in the bathroom. You have to deal with why they never got back.
