Well Jean's rep survived the Dark Phoenix. Wolverine survived his role of Hand Assassin (including attacks on x-mansion and death of Northstar) and Horseman of Apocalypse. Warren's survived every descent into his Archangel persona. And no one blinked twice when when Tony Stark returned from the Onslaught battle even though they still remembered his betrayals and murders from the Crossing (before they retconned it to garbage)

Many readers will be quick to say Cyclops is "ruined" now, but many readers were also quick to say the same thing about Hal Jordan after Emerald Twilight, and Tony Stark after The Crossing, and Wanda Maximoff after Avengers Disassembled, and Spider-Man after the Clone Saga, and etc.

These characters have been around before most of us, and they'll continue be around after we're gone.

The only thing I found disappointing about this issue is that Bendis and Copiel didn't do nearly as good a job with the Xavier vs Scott conflict as Claremont and Byrne did with the Xavier vs Jean conflict wayyy back in UXM #136. That original showdown was so palpable that you could almost feel it oozing off the pages.

This? This was a guy who looked more like Phil Collins than Charles Xavier mostly standing around with his hands in his pockets and lecturing Scott for several pages, then boom, done. Pretty underwhelming.
