Like Nightcrawler, like Ariel, like Ares. All put to the front just to die few issue later. That's why I feared for Iron Fist in this entire event. Just one left and he's safe.

I'm not sure those other examples work so well. Ares was part of the cast of "Mighty Avengers" from it's launch in early 2007, and jumped from there to "Dark Avengers" after Secret Invasion ended, and also got his second miniseries during that time. He had a good three-year run of being a regular member of a team-book's cast before he got to be The One Who Dies in a crossover, and in theory, that's more like How It Should Be Done (although since Dark Avengers ended with Siege, it's not quite How It Should Be Done, which preferrably involves The One Who Dies being part of a book that keeps going, and the writer not jumping ship immediately afterwards, so that the fallout is properly dealt with).

As for Ariel, that's someone who just randomly appeared during the Utopia crossover, then did so again in Messiah Complex just to die because they were having a Purge of The Teleporters plot. Amelia Voght should feel lucky that they evidently forgot she existed. At no point were we ever given any reason to care about Ariel, or was it even properly explained who/what/why she was for anyone who hadn't read "Fallen Angels" back in the 1980s (and for those who had, well, outside of the lobsters, most of the new characters from that book regularly appear on "Worst X-Men Characters Of All Time" lists with good reason), before she suffered her bout of Killing Some Z-List Nobody For The Sake Of Crossover-Bodycount. I still can't believe Carey wasted his last 2 issues bothering to bring her back, or that people on CBR were vocally begging for her return. Unless they were trolling and someone at Marvel fell for it, I guess.

Iron Fist routinely gets solo-book attempts, and even if it didn't come to pass, was a possibility for getting his own movie. He's unlikely to Really Die anytime soon. It's more the characters who don't get solo books, and haven't been seen on any "Marvel Now" books that we have to worry about. On the X-Men, looking at people who are going to be present in the final battle, we have Hope and Polaris have been notably absent from any upcoming covers or preview-pages (and Iceman, too?), and on the Avengers side, Vision and Quicksilver have yet to be revealed to be anywhere when this is all over.
